A HUMAN CERTAINTY is a NEO-REALIST/UNDERGROUND/NO WAVE inspired film. Actors and non-actors that fit the character breakdowns are equally encouraged to submit. More important than acting experience is an emotional connection to the characters, and the ability to communicate an inner life and depth which will allow the truth of their character’s emotions and experiences to surface. Collaborators will be asked to bring to the film passion, commitment, and the desire to help create an artistic expression of alienation, rebellion, confusion, hope, and despair. Roles are paid.

PAUL - A young man (18-25)

ANNA - A young woman (18-25)

Anna and Paul are a young homeless couple who foresee a bleak future for themselves in the midst of a worsening economic crisis and make a lover’s suicide pact. They check into a cheap hotel with one months rent and a vow to spend their last days full of carefree passion and romance. Unburdened from the weight of the world, their love is finally allowed to grow and blossom. But when the month inevitably ends, they must face the irrevocable finality of their decision.

Paul and Anna are outsiders; sad, angry, and disillusioned with the world which is collapsing around them. Their young lives have been hard, and they have both been left hurt and damaged by the unshakable weight they carry from their respective pasts. They have seen and felt a darker side of humanity, one that has left its mark. Exhibiting both nihilistic defiance and haunted vulnerability, they resemble lost, road-weary descendants of the beat or punk generation. Deep at heart they are romantics, but there is a tragic, desperate sorrow within them that remains ever-present.
